The Central Massachusetts Korean War Memorial, honoring the 191 young men and women who made
the supreme sacrifice in the Korean War, was dedicated on November 9, 2003. Thousands of people
attended the ceremony, which was the culmination of an effort that spanned decades.
The Memorial is located on Worcester Center Boulevard in Worcester. Plans are underway for
adding statues of a Korean War American soldier and a Korean child, representing the 100,000
Korean orphans helped by the GIs and symbolizing the hope and bright prospects for Korea's future.
Plus, the Memorial will soon be adding a new Walkway of Honor to include fallen heroes of Desert
Storm, Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom and Somalia who paid the supreme sacrifice, as well as
ex-POWs and news correspondents from these and other wars.
To fund this next phase, the Korean War Memorial Committee is currently planning a major
Tribute for October 23, 2005 in Worcester, where previous generations of veterans will honor
today's generation of veterans and especially those who made the supreme sacrifice or were
prisoners of war.
